Rivero Questions

It appears that several of you have asked Mr Rivero questions that have gone unanswered. Is he avoiding these questions? Was he too busy before the primary election? We will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was just too darn busy. Now that the primary election is over and November is still several months away, maybe we can get some answers to those questions. You all have some great questions, so we took questions from some of your posts and started the list below. If you have questions for Mr Rivero, feel free to post them and we will add them to our list. When everyone has added their questions to the list, we will kindly ask Mr Rivero if he is willing to answer them.

  1. You claim there is a lack of transparency, and you went public with the IA against you involving Rully. Your attorney, Victor Haltom, made mention of a second IA in a news article posted by the LCN. Something about providing information to a witness before that witness was interviewed. Why don't you speak publicly about the this internal affairs investigation?
  2. Why don't you release the investigation into you discharging your firearm at a man on Cobb to the public?
  3. Were you given a memorandum clearing you of the sexual misconduct claim made by Rully?
  4. Why are you still counting the days you have been subjected to the above IA investigation on your campaign website?
  5. Do you have any connection what so ever with members of the "Lovelace Group", Brian Rushing, Bruce Forsythe and Tom Carter?
  6. Do you condone the tactics used by members of the Lovelace Group, in attemp to get people to vote for you? Threats to businesses, people, etc.?
  7. On the blog, even though they say you have nothing to do with it, the lovelace people are stating that you are going to force out all of the 'corrupt' deputies, if you are elected Sheriff. Is this an accurate statement? Will you be forcing out all the "corrupt" deputies?
  8. You have stated that you have no confidence in the command staff at LCSO. Do you plan on replacing the entire command staff, if elected? If not all, how many?
  9. You have stated that you could not work for LCSO if you do not get elected. Why then, don't you just quit now, so they can hire someone to take your place as a deputy?
  10. Do you intend to hire Ringen, Morshed, Beland, or Lande if you are elected?
  11. Are you willing to show transparency to the voters, by opening up your files for review? background files, personnel files, training files, discipline files, use of force files, etc?
  12. How many citizen complaints he has had filed against you (both here and your former agency).
  13. What is the extent of your training? Have you been to Police Management school, Command College, even Supervisor school? Have you ever been a training officer?
  14. Do you believe there was enough evidence gathered during the boat crash investigation for the DA to file any charges against Mr Perdock? If your answer is yes, what do you think he should have been charged with? If you feel there was enough evidence to charge Mr Perdock, doesn't that imply that the investigation was done properly? And that the DA, not the Sheriff, is the one to blame for no charges being filed?
  15.  One of his priorities is to "decentralize operations to assure improved response times for all Lake County residents".
I would like to know exactly what he means by this? LCSO already has decentralized operations with deputies covering all areas of the county, and its three substations. Will he be adding additional substations? Additional staff? I doubt he is going to get any additional funding. So, how does he plan on making what is already in place better at no extra cost to the County?
  16.  My understanding is that the Sheriff never discussed the IA investigation. Rivero was quick to point out one was initiated and he was quick to point out he was cleared, but in spite of that Rivero thinks it is acceptable to ignore a direct order. Where does that leave him, were he to be elected? If a Deputy chooses to ignore a lawful order of a superior for what ever reason, how can Rivero expect to discipline that officer?
  17. He has accused the current Deputies of a number of things, yet he says they will have a clean slate if he is elected. Where is the honesty and transparency in that? He claims that the Deputies have committed atrocious acts but he is willing to give them a clean slate if he were elected?
  18. Ask Rivero about his connections to Tom Carter. One of the county's biggest players in thr illegal marijuana trade. Bet you didn't know Rivero's "train" belonged to him. Why does rivero take money and support, lots of it, from a criminal? What promises has he made in exchange for that support. You won't get truthful answers.
  19.  So you're creating a figure head position for a man who will retire in 4 to 6 years. A man who seldom frequents Clearlake and if he does clutches his old can of SJPD issue pepper spray while walking in and out of Walmart.
How does this benefit public relations? How does this benefit minorities in the county?
  20. Why does Rivero continue to tie up a position at the SO, when he has no intention on returning to that position. Wouldn't the SO and the community be better served if he would quit and that position was filled with someone that is willing to work?
